EducationDynamics eLearning Index

What online degrees should you launch next? What online degrees do prospective students search for most often? Find out in the 2011-2012 EducationDynamics eLearning Index.

EducationDynamics eLearning Index

The EducationDynamics eLearning IndexSM tool is an annual online education research study analyzing aggregated data gathered from the eLearners.com® college search website. The EducationDynamics eLearning Index tool represents the most comprehensive presentation of prospective student demand for online degrees available to institutions today. In this report, prospective student interest in over 3,400 degree programs offered by more than 200 accredited colleges and universities was examined to ascertain what the most popular degree programs were in 2010 and those that may offer opportunities for expansion. Click here to review the methodology used in compiling the eLearning Index.

Rankings throughout the Index are provided by degree level (Associate vs. Bachelor's vs. Master's v. Doctorate), by field of study (Business, Computer and Information Science, Criminal Justice and Law, Education, Engineering and Science, Health Professions, Humanities & Social Science, and Visual and Performing Arts), and among 96 majors (e.g., Business Administration, Early Childhood Education, Music, etc.).

Three core indices are presented in the report:

• The eLearning Demand Index (eLDI) represents the aggregate demand for a given degree program, and provides valuable information to schools that are looking for data to make decisions on which programs they should launch or advance.

• The eLearning Supply Index (eLSI) represents the available supply of prospective students interested in various degree programs accounting for the number of degree listings (on eLearners), and provides valuable information on which programs have saturated the market, and which programs have not (and thus may represent good opportunities for growth).

• The eLearning Growth Index (eLGI) looks at the rate of growth in interest in all the various online degree areas over each quarter of 2010 in order to understand which degrees demonstrate growth areas in 2010, and which areas do not. This often results in less well-known degree areas rising to the top of the list.
