With traditional students, it’s the parents who wield the most influence. They are involved in their children’s life choices right through graduation. Adult students also need family backing, especially spousal support, if they’re to successfully pursue their education.

For example, the FYRE program for first-year students applies just as easily to their parents as to the students. Engage parents in FYRE and you’ll see 30% to 70% higher participation than you would get through parent newsletters, Web portals, and e-mail blast campaigns. Retention programs targeted at parents of upperclassmen are also highly effective. They regularly draw 70% participation.
